David J. Buchanan is a Minneapolis-based author and award-winning filmmaker. A recipient of the 2020 McKnight Media Artist Fellowship and a 2022 Catalyst Story Institute alum, his work often explores complex characters grappling with challenging circumstances. Known for his visceral storytelling and thematic depth in film, including directing the acclaimed feature BLACK in Minneapolis, David now also brings this passion to the world of literature. N57 is his debut novel.

He also curates the Weird Short Films Festival, showcasing the exact kind of surreal cinema he loves to watch stoned.
